Redmi Y2 Top 5 Features: Price in India, Sale Date, Launch Offers, Specifications
Xiaomi has launched Y-series smartphone in India, that is dubbed the Redmi Y2. edmi Y2 is cab called successor of Redmi Y1 which was launched last year, the Redmi Y2 is based on the Redmi S2 that was launched first in China last month. Priced is almost similar to the Redmi Note 5, the Redmi Y2 offers quite a few advantages that might make it a more attractive option for some buyers.
Redmi Y2: Top 5 Features
Undoubtedly, the key highlight of the new Redmi Y2 is its 16MP resolution front-facing camera. Similar to the 20MP selfie camera on the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Redmi Y2 front-facing camera comes with AI Beautify 4.0 feature that uses AI-based technology to enhance your selfies and has been “fine-tuned” for consumers in India. This means the Beautify feature will preserve bindi and beards when beautifying user selfies. The 16MP front camera also gets an LED flash to help users capture selfies in low-light.
At the rear, Xiaomi’s new Redmi Y2 is equipped with an impressive 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with phase detection autofocus and supports Full HD video recording. The dual-camera setup also comes with an AI Portrait mode to let users capture photos with a nice bokeh effect.
The camera is yet again the focus for Xiaomi with the Y2, this time, though, they are offering far more on paper than the last time we saw it. The Redmi Y2 features a dual-camera setup which features a primary 12 MP f/2.2 sensor with phase-detection autofocus and a secondary 5 MP sensor. This is only the second time that we are seeing an AI-enabled dual-camera setup being used by Xiaomi after the Note 5 Pro, so we were expecting good results.
Build and Design
The Redmi Y2 is the biggest smartphone Xiaomi has made to date. Now, it’s not exactly entered phablet territory, but the Y2 is a big phone. It’s even bigger than the Redmi Note 5 Pro which in my opinion was quite big. That said, it still fits well in one hand because of the curved back.
Well, apart from the size, there is little that has changed compared to the Y1 last year. We have the same boring design, which is beginning to become a bit too repetitive on Xiaomi smartphones in the budget. The polycarbonate body feels sturdy otherwise and also makes the phone 10 grams lighter than the all-metal Note 5.
Button placement has not changed either and neither has the placement of the micro USB port and the single, bottom-firing speaker. You also get a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an IR blaster on top. And you also get the same dual-SIM tray.
The Redmi Y2 runs on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core 14nm processor as the Redmi Note 5. While it may not be the most powerful mid-range SoC on the market, there is no doubt that the chip does provide decent performance combined with great efficiency. The chipset is clocked at 2.0 GHz and features an Adreno 506 GPU.
Almost the entire front of the Redmi Y2 is dominated by the 5.99-inch IPS display with 720 x 1440 HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi says the panel used on the Redmi Y2 has a peak brightness of 450-nits, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, and 70.8% NTSC color gamut coverage. Like other Xiaomi smartphones, it also offers a Reading mode and color temperature adjustment.
Another feature that differentiates the Redmi Y2 from the Redmi Note 5 is Face Unlock. Similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Y2 users will be able to unlock the device in the blink of an eye. All you have to do is place the Redmi Y2 in front of your face and turn on the display to gain access. If you don’t find the Face Unlock feature secure enough, you can also use the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor to gain access.
Redmi Y2: Other Specifications
Following the 2018 trend of taller displays, the Redmi Y2 gets an upgrade from a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display to a 5.99-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. But thankfully, there’s no notch. Unfortunately, the resolution hasn’t improved much. It’s now HD instead of HD+, but that’s only because the display is taller now.
The Redmi Y2 comes in two memory configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4G RAM + 64GB storage. For further expansion, the handset includes a dedicated microSD card slot. Connectivity-wise, the Redmi Y2 supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, 4G VoLTE, and an IR blaster. Keeping the lights on is a 3080mAh capacity non-removable battery. In terms of size, the Redmi Y2 measures 160.73 x 77.26 x 8.1mm and weighs in at 170 grams. On the software front, it runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 out of the box.
